Through local grant funding and special partnerships with quilt making groups, such as The Midland Quilt Makers and the Life Responsibilities Class at Grinnell High School, our earliest learners (Birth - five) are provided with their own personalized "Literacy Care Package".
Literacy Care Packages include a selection of new high-quality, developmentally appropriate children's books (up to 4 books) to bring home and enjoy over the winter season. Selected books are carefully packaged with a reusable book bag and include a new blanket or hand made quilt, stuffed animal, information on Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and the local library. A quick tips bookmark to promote shared reading experiences between children and their parent(s)/caregiver(s) is provided as well. Each package is further personalized for every child by including a high interest book alongside a blanket and stuffed toy/animal.
